Cantilevers

Double cantilever with extra middle span
Post-and-beam structures are one of the earliest and simplest types of construction, and a good example of the style is the cantilever. We made a few simple types of cantilever bridges with paper and cardboard, with pumpkins as counterweights.

Cantilevers are all around us! We took pictures of some for the Everyday Architecture Reference book we were making.

And we made some cantilevered structures with blocks, too.
We revisited the subject of cantilevers when we talked about Frank Lloyd Wright and Fallingwater!
