Shield volcano model

This is the classic volcano project, right? But I liked how quick and easy (yet accurate!) this model turned out to be.

We found the method in a book, I think. You tape a plastic cup to the middle of a paper plate, surround it with wadded-up newspapers (to support the volcano sides), cover the whole thing with foil, and then cut a hole in the foil above the cup so you can use it to hold your baking soda/vinegar mixture. So easy.

Seb and Ky chose to demonstrate making one of these for the 4-H Demonstration contest. Seb made a poster:
And they showed the steps of making a sample volcano for the judges. They did a great job.
